Set up in 1990, Palmas, the capital of
Tocantins,
is the youngest Brazilian capital. Result of a careful planning, the city has
long and wide avenues and modern public buildings. Surrounded by its green range
of mountains, beaches on the river banks and waterfalls of the well known
Tocantins river. Near to the "Mato Grosso" border we can find the
"Ilha (island) do Bananal", the biggest fluvial island in the world
formed by the Araguaia river. |
