From the rubber richness we can see only the
vestiges of the Madeira-Mamoré railway utopia. The landscape which remain
rustic and beautiful, is a slightly more reachable than before. Regarding the
folklore the "Boi Bumba" festival is the Amazonic Carnival, which is
held in June in the capital of Porto Velho. Here we have the the "Arraial
Flor de Maracujá", in the Presidente Dutra Avenue, where the festival
takes place, and there is a type of public contest where the best "Boi"
and "Quadrilha" (folk dance and rhythm) are chosen. Like other cities
in the north region, São Pedro is worshipped by the fishermen. On the 29th
of June they wear white clothes, ornament their boats and go in procession
through the Madeira and Mamoré rivers. |
