| The name "Maria Farinha" comes of a small transparent crab, very quick, that inhabits its fine and white sands. With its shallow, calm waters, Maria Farinha is the ideal place to practice water sports: you can sail from there to the channels that separate the island of Itamaraca from the continent, or to a sandbank named "Coroa do Avião" (Crown of the Airplane). If you prefer to see the life from a higher perspective, no problem: the "air connection" Maria Farinha - Itamaraca, with stops in "Coroa do Avião" (photo to the side), is made by gliders. You may not have the better service, but you're going to "eat " the landscape! |

The island of Itamaraca, with 84Km2 of area and fixed population of about 12,000 inhabitants, is separated from the continent by the "Santa Cruz" channel. Its sinuous roads surrounded by coconut trees lead to innumerable beaches and monuments, a unique combination of landscapes and history. Forte Orange: built in 1631 by the dutches as the first bastion of defense of the land just conquered, it was taken back by the portuguese in 1654 and reconstructed in accordance with the portuguese architectural style. Its 13 cannons remain today respectably pointing to the sea of green calm waters. |

Pontas de Pedra is an old fishing village, nowadays mixed with some summer houses. It is very quiet, known as resting place. The beach is calm, of few waves, shallow waters and fine white sand. During the low tide, it is possible to walk more than one kilometer off the shore with water on the knees. Neighboring beaches: "Carne de Vaca" (more to the north, with mangroves) and "Catuama" (more to the South). |
