  PARAÍBA

There are routes in Paraíba which have never been taken. The unique geography of that region, from the coast to the countryside, is an invitation to the most beautiful and extravagant of nature.

From its warm beaches to the serpentine courses of the rivers, from the exuberance of the Atlantic Forest to the most oriental point in America, Paraíba is, thus, natural and exotic.  João Pessoa, is the capital that was originally called "Filipéia de Nossa Senhora das Neves", in honor to the Spanish King Felipe II. It has been four centuries of sunrises and sunsets over a scene of beaches, rivers and a splendid vegetation: welcome to Paraíba and also to the colonial villages of its cities, to the baroque temples and the inscriptions engraved on the Stone of "Ingá", reasons that make Paraíba the own history in movement. Yes, there are routes that only in Paraíba the time has preserved: the dinosaur footsteps in the district of "Sousa", which is one of the most important archaeological places in the world; also the rich folk traditions from the "Cariri" to the "Agreste da Borborema" and "Areia Vermelha" island (Red Sand). There are places in Paraiba where the happiness and the northeastern rhythms are intertwined, which gives a singular originality to the popular festivals. The main one takes place in the city of "Campina Grande" that celebrates "São João" (Saint John) during the whole month of June to the rhythm of the accordion and other percussion instruments which are the biggest cultural identity in that town: the "Forró"; music and dance manifestation. In the carnival and the "micaretas", which are out of season carnival, thousands of people get together to share the happiness of these festivals. We could conclude saying that the exchange of customs and cultures have given a notorious characteristic to the inhabitants of Paraíba: the welcoming spirit. Welcome to Paraíba and also to its rich gastronomy not to mention its natural beauty. Come to Paraíba. It looks forward to seeing you.
