MARANHÃO |
|
Maranhão still has one of the richest and unknown areas in the Amazonic Forest and the biggest preserved area of "cerrado", wich is a typical northeast vegetation, with several great waterfalls. Maranhão was already born different. It is the only Brazilian capital founded by the French and it is curiosly, the most Portuguese. This is explained by the natural treasures that there is in the region, in the transition state among North, Northeast and the Brazilian "Middle West" that motivated many wars among the settlers. The Portuguese conquered the war and they left in Maranhão, especially in cities such as São Luís and Alcântara, a beautiful inheritance: the biggest group of Portuguese civil architecture of Latin America, with more than 3000 buildings of historical value. The anchantment of São Luís and Alcântara, where the mixture among the black, the Indians and the Europeans set up a solid and exuberant cultural patrimony, has been, for several centuries, impressing many travelers. Now it is revealing for new pioneers the great potential of Maranhão for the ecological tourism. To know the wonders of the State demands adventurous spirit. The Government of Maranhão is already opening roads and preparing the basic infrastructure so that tourists from all over the world can enjoy the charms of the State. Maranhão waits for you. Maranhão is something else than just Northeast.
